Mahler is Music!

2023

Creative learning project

During the 2022/2023 school year, we shared our experience in professional artistic practice, creative workshops, and the development of educational programmes for children and families. Through a series of pilot activities, we explored the possibilities of organizing workshops and other events within the spaces and exhibitions of the Gustav Mahler House.

Our main focus was the development and pilot testing of educational programmes for kindergartens and lower secondary schools:

  • Listen Closely
  • Across the Great Ocean

We also organized several music workshops at local schools.

Twice a month, we held Saturday experiential and creative workshops for children and families.

Every Friday afternoon, we opened the Open Studio Malér to the public.

The project culminated in the Mahler for Children festival, held from 18–20 May 2023 at various venues across the historic centre of Jihlava. The festival brought together local artists and educators in a shared programme.

The Mahler is Music! project was created by violinist and performer Matěj Kolář, guitarist and music producer Ondřej Vítů, multimedia artist Petr Bradáček, and arts and cultural educator Hana Dočkalová.

The Mahler is Music! project of Brána Jihlavy was carried out with the financial support of the European Union.
